Title: Majora's Mask
Post by: TSEG on Aug 01, 2026, 07:05 PM
The one nintendo game I actually like, it's quite possibly the peakest (to me at least)

You literally can't get an experience like it with any other game.

It's also like really weird, to get max weirdness you'd have to have played OOT.
But even without playing it's still weird, and it's quite peak.

What other game has you go around a world with a 3 day time loop having to talk to all the people to understand what's going on.
And then have most of the game be side quests, and the main game being more of a side objective (kinda?)

It's just really well put together for something so incredibly rushed, and that rush is basically just the gameplay, as a new player you'd probably be very worried about the constant ticking clock.
And that's something that turns people away from the game, but that's honestly just a skill issue, if you can manage your time you'll have nothing to worry about. (and if you have reading skills)
So yeah if you can read and actually interact with the world you'll be just fine.

Also you should play it, maybe after oot though, it's harder than oot.

As for a way to play it? Just use the Recompiled version of the game (NOT 2Ship) and maybe get like a few QOL mods like draw distance (the default draw distance sucks) (26 year old game btw)

We HATE 2Shit here. What did they do again?

They rushed the port when Recomp released first, port is still full of issues, were aggressive towards recomp, called recomp made ports "lazy" and "emulation"

Their team is questionable and seemingly toxic.

It's just a worse port with limited (code) modding capabilities and a lot of inaccuracies in audio, graphics, etc. (it can do model replacements easier iirc)

Code mods are done as forks and can occasionally be brought into the main version with PR's but they can't be ground breaking mods, they are limited in what they can do.

If you wanted to code lets say a whole new day for the game, you can do it in recomp (it wouldn't be easy still) but for 2ship that could never happen.

In the future recomp will get streamlined model replacements as well, so that 2ship "advantage" will be gone whenever the main dev comes back.

And also path tracing

Their(2ship's team) other ports might be even more rushed because I just keep seeing issues with them whenever I hear something about them.

that's just a summary though, it's more complicated and I don't know literally everything lol

Gee, I wonder what could possibly be the cause of such low quality...

That being said, recomp has spent a long time in the oven no? How long was 2Ship in dev for?

Recomp's development was shorter (technically), most of the work was getting the full N64Recomp tool working so more devs could make recomps and that took a while (it's still in development for new features and such)

2Ship's development started late 2023 and it released late May of 2024 in a very broken state, they also had ship (oot) as a base for things like graphics, api's etc.

It's also a borderline horror game, while there's no actual horror or "real" horror elements, it's close enough to a psychological horror game.

Even twitch (while they suck yes) tagged the game as horror.

Ben Drowned is real!! So scary! Cower in fear! etc etc

The intro alone would give a kid new to this the creeps. At least I think so.

Probably has at least once, maybe more than once. Probably a lot actually.
